A spontaneous outpouring of eleven verses from the heart of Sri Ramana, the first nine of which are beautiful prayers, and the last two powerful assurances, in which he reveals how Arunachala will unfailingly destroy the ego of anyone who is attracted to him, thinking him to be the supreme reality, by drawing his or her mind selfwards and thus subduing all its mischievous activity and making it motionless like itself.

Upadēśa Undiyār of Bhagavan Ramana
In this work, Bhagavan Ramana summarises the teachings that Lord Siva gave in ancient days to the ascetics in the Daruka Forest, indicating in the first fifteen verses that all other spiritual practices must eventually lead to the simple practice of self-investigation (ātma-vicāra), which is the only means to eradicate ego, and then explaining this practice in more depth in verses 16 to 30. – Michael James The prefatory verse, introductory verses, and the concluding verses of praise were composed by Sri Muruganar. The main text consisting of 30 verses was composed by Bhagavan Ramana.
